Close Your Eyes

April 9, 2017 By Guest

Close your eyes
And listen to the chorus of birds
To the wind
To the leaves skittering across grass and then pavement
To the creaking of branches as they sway against the breeze

Close your eyes and feel the warmth of the sun
That same breeze, kissing your cheek

Close your eyes and breathe deeply at the hint of the ocean
The fragrance of an evening meal
The sweet, acrid scent of a cigar
Decomposing leaves
Wet dirt preparing for the blossoms of spring

Close your eyes and know that you are loved
And that, if only in this moment, your world is right

For Nancy

April 8, 2017 By Guest

i meant to say…
i remember the touch of your hand,
your melodic laughter at little things.
you left the convent, I left the seminary,
our common experience in different lights.

i meant to say…
that day we explored the museum in LA
left me in awe of you, my private docent amid the masters,
vibrant colors, muted whispers, and you
dwelt amid a world I’d never imagined.

i meant to say…
i was in love with you,
but you were not with me.

i meant to say…
your kindness, your goodness, your gift
of letting go freed me to meet
the one I love and who loves me.
so…

now i say…
thank you
for our time together,
and for my life after that.

Terse Verse

April 7, 2017 By Guest

Give me verse that is terse, that is tight;
With emotions, sensations so right
That my senses of sound, feel and sight
Reel with wonder.

For a song that’s too long becomes dreary,
Dulls all sense and leaves a man weary,
Tired, discontent and with eyes that feel teary
His mind wanders.

Died: Many times on stage and in public.
In between: Traveled, adventured, drank, told lies, loved, formed opinions, corrected his opinions, invented his biography, hid from his creditors, evaded law enforcement and “all the other things one does to prove one is alive”. www.khotisarque.com

Waiting in Mexico

April 6, 2017 By Annis Cassells

Tedium fizzles
into nothing
no consequence,
no concern
while waiting in Mexico.

While waiting in Mexico
easy-going, bone-tired women
stand on one foot
then the other
in a broken line

They shift parcels, clutch pesos
Balance stacks of steaming tortillas
on one palm
hablan rapido in hushed tones
while waiting in Mexico.

While waiting in Mexico
I observe fellow humans
reflect on life
speak small words in español
and listen.

I embody patience,
sense serenity
know peacefulness
while waiting in Mexico.
Unlike waiting at home.

Prayers

April 5, 2017 By Guest

A Prayer

I wrote this prayer
To remind us of our responsibility
as Humans.
The important roles we play
as professionals and parents.
The role we play impacts our future generations
and thus the progression of the Human race.

Frequent reminders of the purpose
of our job helps us focus on the purpose.
Thus all self-created daily stresses become trivial.

—Your Obstetrician

Your Obstetrician’s Prayer

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your life’s special moment.
I thank God for giving me the direction and purpose to do what I do.

My purpose is to facilitate the safe entry of a new life into the life cycle.
And help make special life time memories for many families.

God please provide an environment for this baby
so that we give him or her a chance to grow to full potential.

Please bless the parents, family, friends, professionals, teachers and society
to positively contribute to his or her complete growth.

physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and spiritual,
so this child is nurtured in abundant unconditional love and support.

Let this child grow into a loving, giving, fair human being,
contributing to society in his or her own capacity.

Together, may all these babies grow up and collectively
make our world a beautiful safe place for future generations to come.
