Writers of Kern Anthology Submission Guidelines

WOK Press is an imprint of Writers of Kern. WOK Press is dedicated to publishing high quality writing from writers of all levels. Its mission is to promote new and emerging writers alongside published writers.

WOK Anthology In The Telling is open to WOK members in good standing (you paid your dues!)

A submission is not a guarantee of inclusion. We encourage you to submit your very best work. Do your edits and corrections before you submit. Submissions will be accepted from March 15, 2026 – May 15, 2026.

1 submission: $5

2-3 submissions: $10

Submission Categories:

  • Museful Moments – three-minute spontaneous writing in response to the prompts given at WOK monthly meetings (150 words or less)
  • Flash Fiction – emphasizes concise storytelling, leaving a lasting impression (500 words or less)
  • Short Stories – Fiction, Creative Fiction, Nonfiction, Memoir (1200 words or less)
  • Poetry – (50 lines or less)
  • Images for cover art (must be 300 DPI) Only one submission will be chosen.
  • Images for interior art, black and white line drawings (must be 300 DPI)

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions are open to new or returning, dues-paying members of Writers of Kern.
  • Please make sure your name and contact information are on your submission. (email, complete address, phone number)
    • Submissions must be unpublished* original work (no quotes or song lyrics, for example), creative, compelling, and well-written. Humor is always welcome.
    • Gratuitous sex, violence, erotica, slash, or angst poetry is not accepted.
  • Please adhere to category/word counts.
  • Submissions should be double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman or Courier font.
  • Acceptable document formats: .rtf., .doc, or .docx files. No .pdf.
  • You may have more than one submission in the same category.
  • Please include a 50-word biography with your submission.
  • Submissions must be sent as an email attachment.
    • For literary submissions:
      • Email to 2026WOKanthology@gmail.com with WOK 2026: (GENRE) in the subject line. For example: WOK 2026: MUSEFUL MOMENTS.
    • For images:
      • Email to 2026WOKanthology@gmail.comwith WOK 2026: IMAGES in the subject line. File format Jpeg @ 300 dpi. Please save your jpegs at maximum quality. If your graphics program gives you a choice of color formats, RGB rather than CMYK would be better. If not, don’t worry about it.
        • For black and white/line art, file format .png @ 300 dpi.

Submissions will be accepted from March 15, 2026 – May 15, 2026 at 2026WOKanthology@gmail.com only.

  • Snail-mail submissions or submissions to other WOK email addresses will be rejected.
  • Submissions without a subject line will be returned, unread.

The WOK Press editorial team will read all submissions, then notify writers with accept or decline emails. If your work is accepted, WOK Press reserves the right to edit submissions to meet publication and editorial standards or request that you do so. You will be sent the edited version to review before publication.

Upon acceptance, writers will be asked to sign a publication agreement, granting WOK Press non-exclusive, one-time rights for publication.

Tentative Publication Schedule: Anthologies to be available by March 2027

And to keep the legal folks happy, you agree to indemnify and hold WOK Press, its parents and affiliated forums, and their successors, representatives, officers, directors, owners and all staff, harmless from any damages, costs or expenses of any nature related to any claim, action or proceeding arising from the above guidelines and/or your representations or warranties hereunder, whether express or implied.

*“Unpublished” for purposes of inclusion in our anthology means that your work has not ever appeared or been distributed in any form that carries a copyright, ISBN number, barcode for sale; it cannot be found in digital form on a website or through a blog or personal page; and it cannot be located for sale through catalogs or online site. “Unpublished” allows work that has been solely and exclusively distributed through personal educational endeavors such as classwork, portfolios, or scholarships, or through critique group involvement.
